MEET ST. TIM’S VESTRY NOMINEES

To be eligible for election, nominees will be communicants in good standing, 18 years or older, and pledging members of the parish for at least 6 months. Invitations for vestry elections were made in November, and four have answered the call. Because discernment for leadership takes time and conversation, we do not take nominations from the floor. As four vestry members end their terms at the annual meeting, this slate of four nominees will be elected by acclamation.

    Bio:

My wife Mary and I have been attending St. Tim’s since early 2020. We joined Zoom groups during the pandemic and have been glad to meet back in person. We regularly participate in Simple Summer Suppers and Fulfilled in Your Hearing. We grew up Episcopalian and Methodist, so after a decades-long sojourn through Evangelicalism, St. Tim’s is a return to our spiritual roots, and we are so happy to be here!

The community at St. Tim’s reminds me of the faith community where I grew up (and at the time took for granted): It is a safe place where we are known and loved. That is what draws me to serve on Vestry. I want to contribute to this community so that others may also be safe, known, and loved. I find both the intellectual and spiritual life of this community invigorating, and I am challenged here to grow and continue searching.

What I bring to the Vestry table is a weird mix. I describe myself as deeply skeptical, wildly uncertain, pursuing appreciation for everything, and open to mystery. The call to serve on Vestry is ironic in a God sort of way, given that I had vowed not to get on any more church boards, ever.

    Bio:

I have been an Episcopalian since 1962 and I have been attending St. Timothy’s since 2002.  I have been married to Laura for almost 36 years and we have two grown daughters and are soon to become grandparents for the first time this Spring.  I have served on Vestry’s at three different churches -- Church of the Ascension in Pueblo 1975; St. Stephen the Protomartyr in Aurora (two three-year terms between 1977 and 1998); and St. Tim’s (two three-year terms 2003-2005 and 2013-2015 and a one-year term in 2012).  I have taught Sunday School with Laura at both St. Stephen and St. Tim’s, and I have served on the Finance Committee at. St. Tim’s.  I was also a Youth Group Leader at Ascension and St. Stephen from 1975 through 1984.  Currently I am the Family Promise Parish Coordinator at St. Tim’s.

I am interested in serving on St. Timothy's Vestry because I believe that this church is in the middle of very exciting and challenging times.  In this new year we hope to completely re-model our Parish Hall to make it more welcoming to our Family Promise guests and others who need a welcoming and warming space.  We are clearly living out our Baptismal Covenant at St. Tim's and that motivates me to be part of parish leadership to help shepherd that process.  I believe my corporate experience (50 years at Xcel Energy in Project Management and Finance)  and communication skills will serve our Parish and Vestry well.  It would be an honor to serve again as a Vestry person at St. Timothy's.

    Bio:

I joined St. Timothy’s parish in early 2023 with my husband, Ryan. At the time, we were seeking a faith community where we could grow and participate in as our authentic selves. I grew up in non-denominational Christian churches and immediately fell in love with the liturgical worship of the Episcopal Church. I was struck by the warmth of the St. Timothy’s community that embraced and saw us through our confirmation process and marriage in early 2024.

Since joining the Church, I have served as a lector as well as on the hospitality team, ensuring the community has a comfortable atmosphere following church services to converse, discuss sermons, and meet new people in the St. Timothy’s community. Additionally, I am active with the young adult community and am beginning to serve on the youth team.

On the vestry, I will be focused on sustaining our parish’s welcoming and supportive culture, finding new ways to build the parish, and bringing my background as a strategy consultant to help St. Timothy’s continue to evolve in its outreach to the community.

    Bio:

I desire to further the great work of our dedicated clergy, Vestry, and congregation in making our church facility a beautiful and safe place for worship and service to our community.  With the benefit of our recent capital improvements, and anticipated additional improvements to the church’s lower level, there is an opportunity for St. Tim’s to expand its community service through the use of our physical space.  Several non-profit groups currently enjoy the use of our facility, and I would like to help increase usage by community organizations or groups aligned with our ministries and in need of space for meetings or events.

I also desire to further contribute to the faith community that is an important part of my life.  I enjoy the Path bible study, volunteering with Family Promise, helping with needs around the church building, and other fellowship activities.

I retired as an attorney last year.  I worked in the areas of business banking and insurance, including many years as in-house counsel for a financial institution charged with a mission to serve agricultural business and rural-infrastructure needs.  I also served as the bank’s ethics officer, with responsibility for promoting high ethical standards for the organization and its 1,200 employees.

Originally from Massachusetts, I met my wife, Nancy, at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  We raised our family in Centennial and are now enjoying our retirement together, spending lots of wonderful time with our first grandchild and looking forward to another arrival this Spring.

Join us for our Annual Meeting in person or virtually on Sunday, February 2nd directly following worship service (11:30 AM).
